The George Harcourt Inn (opposite Cockington Green) was built in 1980 and named after a local landowner, George Harcourt. George was a bit of a lad in his time. He was a good businessman, a keen sportsman and, generally, an all round man’s man – and an Englishman to boot.
More recently, The George was taken over by a couple of Canberra folk and as a result, underwent a face lift that has recharged this cosy meeting place for years to come.
Your hosts Gil and Colleen offer the best of live music, great food and a cool kick-back atmosphere, giving The George a unique ambiance. This fine establishment has great appeal to those who don’t want the *kachink* of pokies and the constant drone of TV screens in the background. The noise has been replaced with the sounds of cruising music as a background for good conversation and relaxation.
Inside or outside, front or back, there’s plenty of room to find your own groups niche or mix it with the guests. The demographic is diverse and colourful and always friendly and comfortable.
Guests can enjoy great food everyday and live music every week starting with our singer/songwriter Tuesday evenings, live artists on Friday and Saturday evenings, and our “Jazz at the George” on Sunday afternoons from 3.oopm.
